Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The door handles of uPVC/Composite are made of robust materials and are perfect for doors with multi-point locks which require a robust design. The handles are inline and they utilize the same screws tilt and turn window handles spindle to secure them. They are easily fitted on any uPVC/Composite door.

The handle can be placed and angled to accommodate all users. The handle has been endurance-tested to 200 000 cycles. This helps ensure that the quality of finish and performance over time. The sprung lever is adjustable to fit a broad range of locks. This is particularly useful for narrower door frames in which the cylinder is further back. A lever that is shorter is an excellent option for doors where the latch can be opened by a thumb turn located on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc operates differently to the lever type handles found on most doors. These handles are operated by one spindle, or two spindles inline or offset. They are generally used on UPVC double glazed handles double glazed windows handles doors and come in many variations & styles.

The handles have been tested to the minimum of 200,000 cycles and are available in several finishes, including White and Silver, as well as Chrome & Gold. The finish is compliant with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, which gives the handle a high level of durability and performance for its intended use.

All UPVC handle lever pads come with a spindle, screws and can be mounted on the uPVC door. The backplate fixing centres of 211mm allow for a wider handle, which is often a benefit when replacing a damaged or worn multi point door lock mechanism. These handle levers are also sprung, solving the problem of handles hanging from their horizontal position when not in use.

It is important to match the PZ dimensions for both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when choosing a replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is often referred to as the handle centre or 'cylinder centres which is a crucial aspect in ensuring that you have the right handles.

Once you have the correct PZ size, you'll have to ensure that the handle lever pads and push pads are a appropriate shape to accommodate the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) approved handles you need for your doors. They are typically round or square with an internal lever, and an external push pad.

The majority of UPVC Lever Pads that we sell are spring-loaded. This means that they can be reverted to a horizontal position after they are not in use instead of hanging and possibly securing to the frame. This prevents draughts from entering the property. You will also find that the majority of UPVC handle lever pad style handles are hand-operated that allows you to put them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are typically found on uPVC doors, but can also be used on other types of door. The cylinder lock operates with a key that unlocks the cylinder's case. This reveals pins that can be aligned to the pins in the lock, allowing them to rotate the revolving camera, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be equipped with up to six pins, with external and internal doors usually having different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder you choose is vital. It depends on the use that your doors and handles will receive. For example, external doors should be fitted with an extra secure cylinder, while internal doors can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. In addition, some cylinders are available with extra features which can enhance security further, such as anti-drill and anti-bump characteristics.

A euro cylinder should be measured accurately to ensure it's the right size for your door. The cylinder needs to be measured from the central screw hole to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn should there be one. It is recommended to do this while the lock is in place however, if this is not possible, you can remove it to take measurements. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon could be vulnerable to attacks, such as snapping locks, so it is essential to make sure it's not too long.

Most modern cylinders are made with anti-drill and bump resistance features built into their design. They are designed to minimize attacks by forcing cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This will help to deflect attacks and ensure your door is secure.

There are also cylinders that have been made to resist snapping. This is a growing method of attack on cylinders, where the break line inside the lock is attacked by a tool that is specially designed to snap off the front of the cylinder to allow the door to open. This is a quicker and more convenient method of gaining access than a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the break-in which could hinder insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits within the base of the door handle backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution to return the multipoint lock handles back to their rest position after use. Previously a lot of handles did not have a spring built into them and without this they tend to droop or drop once the locking mechanism is removed. Adding this simple component is one of the most effective ways to fix this, and is an effective way to keep your upvc doors from getting stuck in an open or closed position, as they aren't always easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes have been specifically made for use with multipoint locks sprung but they won't work with non-sprung multipoint handles. You will require a custom hole cut into your backplate to allow these to fit (please check the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes can be used as a replacement to damaged or missing cassettes on the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are supplied in a single unit. They feature a square cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.

These spring cassettes are a great cost-effective solution to the issue of your door handles sliding. They are simple to install and will prolong the lifespan of your uPVC doors.
